Former NRL star Peter Sterling joins Newcastle's Northern Hawks as ambassador, mentoring youth and supporting team rebuild ahead of 2026 season.
Peter Sterling, a former Parramatta Eels star and NRL Hall of Famer, has become ambassador for the Northern Hawks, a Newcastle Rugby League club, returning to Raymond Terrace where he played his first game at age six.
The 65-year-old, now a Nelson Bay resident, said the role marks a "full circle" moment and aims to mentor young players, especially in the halfback position, by emphasizing game vision and decision-making.
He will attend events and match days, possibly assist with training, and support the club’s rebuilding efforts ahead of the 2026 season, which begins April 11 against Lakes.
The Hawks have added players Ethan Campbell, Bryce Donovan, and Noah Ryan.
