Florida Gov. DeSantis appointed conservative judge Adam Tanenbaum to the state Supreme Court, filling the seat of retiring Justice Charles Canady.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Adam Tanenbaum, a First District Court of Appeal judge and former Florida House general counsel, to the Florida Supreme Court, his sixth conservative nomination to the seven-member court.
Tanenbaum, a self-identified originalist, pledged to uphold laws based on their historical meaning during a public announcement at his alma mater, Seminole High School.
His appointment fills the seat vacated by retiring Justice Charles Canady.
The court now faces key cases on marijuana legalization and election crimes.
DeSantis also advocated for the court to expand its oversight of Florida’s legal profession, citing Texas’s move to end mandatory ABA law school accreditation.
Justices serve until age 75 and face retention elections every six years.
