ED seeks suspension of West Bengal cops over alleged obstruction of money-laundering probe.
The Enforcement Directorate has asked India’s Supreme Court to suspend senior West Bengal police officers and initiate departmental action, alleging they obstructed a January 8 money-laundering probe by forcibly interfering with a search at I-PAC’s Kolkata office and its director’s residence.
The ED claims digital evidence was illegally taken, violating the PMLA and BNSS, and that officers failed to arrest suspects or file FIRs despite witnessing crimes.
It also accuses the West Bengal government, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, of interfering in the investigation linked to a coal-pilferage scam.
The Supreme Court is set to hear the plea today.
