A 41-year-old Dublin man was sentenced to 12 months in jail for threatening to firebomb his ex-partner’s home and harm her father and child during abusive phone calls in May and June 2023.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of threatening to kill or cause serious harm, with the court hearing he screamed at the child, called the father a derogatory term, and vowed to break his legs.
The victim reported the calls to gardaí, and though no evidence was found during his arrest, the judge emphasized the severity of the threats, particularly the firebombing vow and impact on the child.
The man has 39 prior minor convictions, including violent offenses, and his defense cited mental health struggles, substance use, and family stress.
Despite the victim’s wish to avoid prison and his compliance with a protection order, the court imposed the sentence to ensure safety, with conditions including a two-year ban on contact and a requirement to complete anger management.
