Artist Wu Chengyan painted a life-sized Tian’anmen Rostrum mural in Henan, sparking tourism and rural revival.
In Wuying Village, Henan Province, artist Wu Chengyan completed a life-sized mural of the Tian’anmen Rostrum in December 2025, fulfilling the dreams of elderly residents who had never visited Beijing.
The 18-meter painting, created over five days with detailed accuracy, drew emotional reactions and sparked a tourism boom, with up to 60,000 visitors daily during the 2026 Lunar New Year.
The surge led to over 400 new food and goods stalls, boosting local incomes and prompting infrastructure upgrades.
The project, inspired by earlier murals based on the film "Ne Zha 2," has expanded to over 40 artworks featuring national landmarks, scientists, and pop culture figures.
It reflects China’s broader rural revitalization efforts under the 15th Five-Year Plan, with plans to open a studio and train youth in painting.
