Three Oahu high schools begin a state-led SRO pilot program in October 2026 to boost safety and build trust.
Starting in October 2026, three Oahu high schools—Waianae, Kapolei, and Kaimuki—will launch a state-led School Resource Officer (SRO) pilot program, marking the first such initiative on the island.
Developed by the Hawaii State Department of Education and Honolulu Police Department, the program will place trained reserve officers at the schools to enhance safety, build student trust, and support career pathways in law enforcement and public safety.
Officers will focus on mentorship, conflict resolution, and emergency preparedness, with activities tailored to each school’s needs.
The pilot runs through the 2025–26 school year, after which its impact will be evaluated for potential expansion.
