Ryan Goad sentenced to 40 years in mental health facility for shooting his father in Dec. 2024.

Ryan Goad, 47, of Sparta, Wisconsin, was sentenced to 40 years in a mental health facility after pleading guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide and mayhem in connection with a December 31, 2024, shooting of his father, Robert Goad, 80, in Tomah. The elder Goad was critically injured with head and shoulder wounds. Ryan fled with his children but was arrested hours later in Madison. A mental health evaluation led to a finding of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect, prompting the dismissal of additional charges. The sentence began immediately, with a review hearing scheduled for February 2, 2025.
