A retired surgeon must pay legal costs after dropping false fraud claims against mosque directors in Ireland.
A retired surgeon, Dr. Abdel Basset El-Sayed, has been ordered by Ireland’s High Court to pay legal costs after withdrawing serious allegations of fraud, theft, and money laundering against directors of the Al Maktoum Foundation CLG, which operates an Islamic cultural centre in Clonskeagh, South Dublin.
The dispute, which led to the closure of the mosque, stemmed from a conflict over board control, with Dr.
El-Sayed claiming he had served as a director since 2012.
The court ruled the claims were unfounded, granting the directors’ application for costs.
The case was settled in December, with a confidential court undertaking given by one party, and the matter regarding costs against another individual, Joseph Sallabi, adjourned to February.
