The Old Vine Registry, the world’s largest database of historic vineyards, reached 9,393 registered sites across 42 countries by early 2026, nearing 9,400 entries as vineyards planted in 1991 became eligible for inclusion after reaching the 35-year threshold.
The non-profit project, managed by wine writer Alder Yarrow, continues to grow through contributions from producers, importers like Skurnik Wines and Winebow, and volunteer researchers.
It is supported by the Heritage Vine Hunt Contest, which encourages public participation in documenting old vineyards, and aligns with the International Organisation of Vine and Wine’s 2024 guidelines.
An annual update webinar is set for June 30, 2026, to announce contest winners and unveil new initiatives.
The registry seeks volunteers and donors to help preserve viticultural heritage globally.
