Mercedes-Benz India has begun local production of the GLS Maybach, becoming the first market outside the U.S. to do so, signaling strong confidence in India’s luxury car market. The move, announced January 14, 2026, aims to boost availability and reduce prices, with the SUV expected to drop from Rs 3.17 crore to Rs 2.75 crore. Despite a slight overall sales decline to 19,007 units in 2025, top-end vehicle sales rose 11%, making up 25% of total sales, while EV sales grew 12% and accounted for 20% of high-end models. The company plans 12 new launches in 2026, including electric and celebration editions, and introduced 'MB.Charge Public' for seamless access to over 9,000 DC charging points.
