A man in his 30s was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after setting his maroon Holden Commodore on fire during a police pursuit in Gosnells, Western Australia, on Wednesday afternoon.
The high-speed chase through Perth’s south-eastern suburbs ended when the vehicle became stuck near Railway Avenue and Camillo Road.
Police had initiated the pursuit after the car failed to stop, but later called it off.
Officers approached the vehicle, where the driver was seen dousing himself with an accelerant before exiting.
The car ignited, and police pulled the man to safety, administering first aid.
He was conscious and breathing upon arrival at Royal Perth Hospital.
Two officers sustained minor injuries.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and parts of the area were cordoned off.
The incident remains under investigation.
