The Kerala High Court has ordered a vigilance probe into the alleged misappropriation of around Rs 35 lakh from the sale of sacred ghee at Sabarimala Temple, following discrepancies in revenue from 352,050 packets sold between November 2025 and January 2026.
Only Rs 13.68 lakh from 75,450 sold packets was deposited, despite 89,300 packets being sold, with proceeds from 13,679 packets unaccounted for.
The court found evidence of deliberate fraud, citing poor record-keeping, delayed remittances, and failure to issue receipts by employee Sunil Kumar Potti, who has been suspended.
A team of upright officers must report within a month, with the final report requiring court approval.
