Kentucky allocates $2.3M to upgrade six riverports for better efficiency and global trade access.
Kentucky has awarded nearly $2.3 million in state funding to eight riverport projects across six public riverports in western Kentucky, with the final round of grants before the next budget cycle.
Funds will support upgrades including new scale houses, conveyor systems, barge-moving equipment, and inland port development.
The Paducah-McCracken County Riverport Authority received $730,000 for critical infrastructure, while Henderson County will replace a mobile conveyor with an electric handler.
Eddyville, Hickman-Fulton County, Western Kentucky Regional, and Owensboro riverports also received funding for facility and equipment improvements.
Governor Andy Beshear emphasized the role of riverports in connecting regional businesses to national and global markets, with the investments aimed at boosting efficiency, safety, and competitiveness.
The program was established by the 2024 General Assembly.
