Ireland’s largest car importer, Cedar Motor Group, sold to Portugal’s Salvador Caetano Group, ending 50-year Kuwaiti family ownership.
The Cedar Motor Group, Ireland’s largest importer of Nissan, Renault, Dacia, and Alpine vehicles, has been acquired by Portugal’s Salvador Caetano Group, ending nearly 50 years of ownership by the Kuwaiti al-Babtain family.
The deal, which preserves Cedar’s Irish management and leadership, includes its 600 employees and retail arm, Windsor Motor Group.
Cedar reported over 18,000 new vehicle registrations in 2025.
The Salvador Caetano Group, with €4.3 billion in 2024 revenue and operations in 48 countries, will integrate Cedar into its global network, providing access to international expertise and resources.
