According to a coroner's court hearing on January 14, 2026, Indian singer Zubeen Garg, 53, drowned on September 19, 2025, close to Lazarus Island in Singapore after swimming without a life jacket while extremely drunk. Despite repeated warnings, police testified that he had a blood alcohol content of 333 mg per 100 milliliters and had taken off his life jacket because it was uncomfortable. He went limp and floated face down, according to witnesses, before being hauled back to a yacht and given CPR. At Singapore General Hospital, he was declared dead. Although no evidence of foul play was discovered, the investigation is looking into the circumstances, and 35 witnesses are anticipated to testify.
