Fourteen women at Louisiana’s Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women earned Associate and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Christian Service from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Leavell College during a January 12, 2026, ceremony in the facility’s new chapel.
The program, active since 1995 and expanded to LCIW in 2010, offers a four-year curriculum in theology, Scripture, church history, and ministry skills, aiming to foster character development and prepare participants for leadership roles upon release.
The 2026 graduates completed the program despite challenges including the pandemic and facility renovations.
The first such graduation occurred in 2016, highlighting a decades-long effort to support rehabilitation through education.
