Bangladesh suspends Visa on Arrival Jan 15–Feb 15 amid election and referendum security concerns.
Bangladesh has suspended its Visa on Arrival program from January 15 to February 15 for all eligible countries, including Bhutan and Nepal, ahead of national parliamentary elections and a referendum on February 12.
The move, not officially explained but widely seen as a security measure, coincides with the start of the election campaign on January 22.
Visa services at key Bangladeshi missions in India have also been halted.
The government has deployed military forces nationwide with magisterial powers, established security checkpoints, and instructed police to remain on high alert.
Enhanced screening for all visas and daily reporting on foreign nationals’ movements are now required.
