A West Virginia woman was charged with child abuse after allegedly using a paddle and other harsh punishments on a child, leading to injuries and lasting trauma.
Courtney Crites, 32, of Belington, West Virginia, was arrested and charged with three felony counts of child abuse resulting in injury after allegedly using a wooden paddle she called "the attitude adjuster" to strike a child, breaking the paddle.
Court documents and interviews with five minors, including one boy who said he was kicked, pushed outside in freezing weather, and punished for misfolding clothes, led to the charges.
The boy reported lasting bruises and fear of returning to Crites’ care.
She is held at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $100,000 bond as an investigation continues.
