A Via Rail passenger train derailed early Tuesday morning in St-Alexandre-de-Kamouraska, Quebec, after colliding with two tractor-trailer trucks parked at a railway crossing, according to authorities.
The incident occurred around 1:35 a.m. on January 12, 2026, on a track in the Bas-St-Laurent region, disrupting rail and road traffic.
No injuries were reported among the 124 passengers or the four people in the trucks.
Emergency crews transported affected individuals to a local city hall for shelter.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada and CN police are investigating the cause, including whether warning signals functioned properly and why the trucks were parked at the crossing.
A diesel fuel spill from one locomotive is being assessed by environmental officials.
The rail line has since reopened.
