A Uvalde teacher testified that former officer Adrian Gonzales failed to act during the 2022 Robb Elementary shooting, which killed 21.
A Uvalde teacher, Arnulfo Reyes, testified in the trial of former officer Adrian Gonzales, who faces 29 counts of child endangerment for allegedly failing to act during the 2022 Robb Elementary School shooting.
Reyes, who survived being shot in the arm and back, described seeing a "black shadow with a gun" enter his classroom, where the gunman killed all 19 students and two teachers.
He recounted being taunted by the shooter, praying for the attack to end, and hearing a student call for help from an adjacent room.
The trial, focused on Gonzales’ inaction during the first critical minutes, includes graphic surveillance footage and emergency calls, with prosecutors arguing his failure to engage the gunman contributed to the tragedy.
The defense highlighted that classroom doors were unlocked, contradicting policy, while Reyes said he believed his door was secured.
The case is a rare legal examination of a law enforcement officer’s inaction during an active shooter incident.
