Ukraine granted U.S.-linked group rights to major lithium deposit under new U.S. deal, requiring $179M investment and funding reconstruction fund.
Ukraine has awarded development rights to the Dobra lithium deposit, one of its largest reserves, to a U.S.-linked consortium, Dobra Lithium Holdings JV, in the first use of a production-sharing agreement under a 2023 U.S.-Ukraine minerals deal.
The project, selected through a competitive tender, requires at least $179 million in investment, including $12 million for exploration, and will see half of the profits fund a U.S.-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund.
The consortium includes TechMet, backed by the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, and billionaire Ronald Lauder, though his role is unconfirmed.
The move aims to attract Western investment and support Ukraine’s reconstruction, though Russia has criticized it as exploitation.
