Students sue Cleveland State over secret transfer of student radio to Ideastream, citing free speech and open government violations.
Cleveland State University students and former WCSB radio hosts sued the university on January 12, 2026, alleging First Amendment violations and breaches of Ohio’s open meetings law after the sudden transfer of the student-run radio station to Ideastream in October 2025.
The lawsuit claims the move was secretly planned by President Laura Bloomberg, motivated by frustration with student dissent, and involved blocking student access to funds, holding closed-door meetings, and retaining student-owned property.
Plaintiffs seek to void the transfer agreement, restore student control, recover public records, and obtain damages.
CSU and Ideastream have not commented, and the case may go to trial in 2027.
