Safety upgrades start 18 Jan 2026 on Auckland’s southbound Royal Road on-ramp, closing lanes nightly until 7 Mar to improve bus access.
Safety upgrades begin 18 January 2026 on the southbound on-ramp at Royal Road on State Highway 16 in Auckland, running nightly until 7 March, with work from 9pm to 5am, excluding Auckland Anniversary and Waitangi weekends.
The project will reconfigure the ramp to improve bus lane access by removing the current bus lane, relocating signals, and adjusting the layout.
Excavation, drainage, and paving will occur, with the ramp mostly open but temporary closures possible, requiring detours via Lincoln, Makora, and Triangle Roads—adding about five minutes to trips.
Noise will increase near affected areas.
Work is weather-dependent; travelers should check the NZTA Journey Planner and website for updates.
