A rare albino humpback whale named Siale was spotted off NSW, prompting protection measures.
A rare albino humpback whale named Siale, one of only two confirmed true albinos ever recorded on Australia’s east coast, was spotted off Crescent Head, NSW, on January 10, 2026.
Born in Tongan waters during the 2024 breeding season, Siale is completely devoid of melanin, appearing porcelain-white with pinkish eyes.
She has been monitored by ORRCA, NPWS, and Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary since late 2024.
Authorities have enforced a 500-meter boat exclusion zone to protect her and urge the public to report any sightings immediately without approaching or following her.
