flag NASCAR is returning to its original Chase format for 2026, replacing the current playoff with a 10-race, no-elimination postseason for the top 16 drivers.

For the 2026 Cup Series, NASCAR is bringing back its original "Chase" format. The current playoff system will be replaced by a 10-race postseason that will feature the top 16 drivers based on regular-season points. There won't be any eliminations, and the winner will be the driver with the most points following the final race on November 8 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The regular-season points lead carries a 25-point advantage into the Chase, but standings are reset for the 16 drivers. Race victories now award 55 points, up from 40. In order to increase the significance of each race, the term "playoffs" will no longer be used, and the new structure will apply to all three national series.
