Najib Razak denied being a shadow director or approving RM42 million transfers in a 1MDB-linked civil case.
Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak testified in a Kuala Lumpur High Court civil case on January 13, 2026, denying he was a shadow director of SRC International or used former director Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil to divert RM42 million.
The lawsuit, filed by SRC International and its subsidiary Gandingan Mentari, seeks damages tied to the 1MDB scandal, following Najib’s 2022 conviction for misappropriating RM2.3 billion.
He stated he never attended board meetings, was not informed of Faisal’s appointment as CEO, and denied approving fund transfers, asserting decisions were made by 1MDB.
Najib, previously sentenced to 12 years and fined RM210 million—later reduced to six years and RM50 million after a royal pardon—maintains his actions were unauthorized.
The court’s ruling could clarify his civil liability beyond his criminal sentence.
