flag A Michigan cop was charged for forging a subpoena and conducting an unauthorized probe after a 2025 crash involving his relative.

Former Genesee Township police officer Kenneth John Chase, 55, of Swartz Creek, Michigan, has been charged with felony misconduct in office and misdemeanor unauthorized service of legal process following his actions after a May 2025 car crash involving a relative. According to Michigan State Police, Chase, while on duty, disputed a determination that his relative was at fault, then conducted an unauthorized investigation. He visited the other driver’s home, identified himself as a police officer, and requested a key fob, which was denied. He allegedly forged a subpoena, signed it himself, and had a private investigator serve it on a towing company. He also hired a private crash expert to access vehicle data. Chase was arraigned on January 12, 2026, with a probable cause conference set for January 22.
