A massive Chinese-built platform has reached Western Australia, advancing Woodside’s Scarborough gas project for 2026 export.
A 70,000-tonne floating production unit built in China has arrived off Western Australia’s coast, marking a major milestone for Woodside Energy’s Scarborough gas project.
Towed over 7,400 kilometers by five tugboats since November, the 165-meter-tall platform is now positioned 375 kilometers off Karratha.
It will process gas from eight initial wells, sending it via a 430-kilometer pipeline to the Pluto LNG plant for liquefaction and export to Asia.
The unit features six decks, 75 crew beds, a gym, and communal areas.
Woodside’s acting CEO Liz Westcott called the safe arrival a significant achievement as the project prepares for production in the second half of 2026.
