Kenya preserves 54-year-old super tusker Craig, a conservation icon, in taxidermy for public display.
The Kenya Wildlife Service has begun taxidermy preservation of Craig, a 54-year-old super tusker from Amboseli National Park who died on January 3. Known for his massive tusks—each weighing about 45 kg—Craig was one of Africa’s last remaining super tuskers and a symbol of conservation success. He fathered many calves, helping sustain genetic diversity, and survived major poaching threats. The lifelike mount will be displayed publicly to educate future generations about wildlife conservation and Kenya’s natural heritage.
