Canada allocates $9.5M to expand Rouge National Urban Park with new trail, restoration, and accessibility upgrades.
The federal government has allocated nearly $9.5 million to improve Rouge National Urban Park and Rouge Beach in Ontario, including a new 2.3-kilometre accessible trail, ecological restoration of Rouge Marsh, a permanent washroom, enhanced parking, and a new ramped entrance.
The lower beach parking lot will be removed and restored to natural habitat.
Construction will restrict access off Lawrence Avenue East until 2027 due to safety concerns.
The park spans over 79 square kilometres and is Canada’s first national urban park.
