The AU warns U.S. funding cuts to 66 global bodies threaten Africa’s development and global cooperation.
The African Union has expressed concern over the U.S. decision to halt funding and withdraw from 66 international organizations, including key UN bodies.
AU Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf warned the move could weaken global cooperation, harm Africa’s development, peacebuilding, and humanitarian efforts, and threaten progress on Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
He emphasized the need for continued multilateral engagement and urged dialogue to maintain essential functions, improve accountability, and protect vulnerable populations amid growing reliance on external donors.
