Aldi is raising starting pay for UK store assistants by 33p per hour to £13.35, effective March 1, ahead of the April national minimum wage increase to £12.71 for workers aged 21 and over.
Employees in London will see a 36p increase, reaching £14.71 hourly, with higher rates possible based on seniority.
The move, part of a £36 million investment, includes extending maternity pay to 26 weeks at full pay and raising apprentices’ wages to £12.02.
The company, which employs over 45,000 people across 1,060 stores, also offers paid breaks to all in-store staff, valued at up to £1,470 annually, and plans 80 new store openings over the next two years.
