Alabama will block out-of-state and online SNAP purchases starting Jan. 22, 2026, to fight fraud.
Starting January 22, 2026, Alabama will block SNAP EBT card transactions made outside the state or online to reduce fraud, with cards automatically placed in a "Block High-Risk Transaction" status.
Recipients must unlock their cards via the ConnectEBT app, website, or customer service to make such purchases.
In-state transactions will continue normally.
The change follows a reported $15.9 million in SNAP fraud between May 2023 and December 2024, mostly from out-of-state transactions.
The state is also rolling out chip-enabled EBT cards as part of broader fraud prevention efforts.
