Cindy, a human trafficking survivor whose identity is protected, recounts being lured at 18 through a dating app into a decade-long ordeal of exploitation across Ontario.
After being deceived about a construction job, she was taken to Ottawa and forced into sex work under a pimp, enduring daily violence, threats, malnutrition, and near-starvation.
Repeatedly escaping and being recaptured, she was eventually rescued by police and placed in a rehabilitation center in British Columbia.
With support from SafeHope Home in Durham, she began healing through counseling and life skills training.
She has since testified in court, helping secure convictions against at least five traffickers, including her primary pimp, who received a 10-year sentence.
