Three men were charged after a violent brawl at a licensed venue in Buttai, NSW, on January 10, 2026, around 11:30 p.m., following reports of an altercation involving a man allegedly armed with a knife. Police responded, arrested three suspects who tried to flee in a vehicle, and took them to Cessnock Police Station. A 37-year-old faces multiple charges including assault causing actual bodily harm, being armed with intent, choking, affray, and intimidation or stalking; he was denied bail and will appear in Newcastle Local Court on March 18. A 33-year-old was charged with three counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, affray, and common assault; also denied bail, he is set to appear in Cessnock Local Court on January 21. A 29-year-old man, charged with common assault and affray, remains hospitalized under police supervision and is scheduled for a bail hearing on January 12. Four victims, aged 52, 57, and 61, were taken to hospital for treatment. Police continue investigating the incident.
