Over 20 Congolese doctors in Kenya sue government over blocked licence renewals, calling the move unlawful and discriminatory.
Over 20 Congolese doctors in Kenya have sued the government over a freeze on renewing their practising licences and work permits, claiming the move is unlawful, discriminatory, and violates East African Community treaty rights.
They say the government abruptly stopped issuing required "no objection" letters without notice or explanation, increased renewal fees nearly tenfold, and denied valid applications, leaving them unable to work despite years of service.
Represented by lawyer Danstan Omari, the doctors argue the policy undermines healthcare access, especially in underserved areas, and seek court orders to compel renewals and block arbitrary barriers.
