Ocado launched a weight management aisle with high-protein, low-calorie foods to support UK shoppers using GLP-1 medications.
Ocado has launched a "weight management" aisle in the UK featuring smaller, high-protein, low-calorie foods like a 100g extra-lean steak, cottage cheese, and ready-to-drink protein meals, targeting consumers using GLP-1 weight loss medications.
The move follows similar efforts by retailers such as Marks & Spencer and Waitrose, as up to 2.5 million UK adults were expected to use these drugs by July 2025.
Ocado research found 22% of shoppers considered the treatment, rising to 37% among 25- to 34-year-olds, though only 40% understood how the drugs work.
Over 70% said they want guidance on foods that preserve muscle during weight loss.
Sales of protein staples surged in early January, with cottage cheese up 138% and steak 63% higher, reflecting growing demand for nutritionally balanced options to support medical weight loss.
