Despite widespread anxiety, some positive signs emerged: the consumer debt index rose slightly in December, the lowest level of financial strain in years, disposable income increased, and nearly half have six months of emergency savings.
The data comes from an online poll of 2,001 Canadians conducted November 28 to December 1, 2025, and was published January 12, 2026.
