A midwife was given an 18-month restriction for misconduct, including abusive behavior and refusing care, but avoided being struck off.
Midwife Stephanie Travis of Cambridgeshire has been given an 18-month Conditions of Practice Order after a misconduct hearing. Allegations included shouting, swearing, rough handling during scans, refusing to disclose baby gender, and telling a pregnant woman with pre-eclampsia she was “too much” to scan. The panel found her conduct brought the profession into disrepute, especially during the pandemic, but deemed striking her off disproportionate due to her clean record and efforts to improve. She must now follow a Personal Development Plan, complete additional training, and limit her work to her current role for 18 months.
