A man was charged after being arrested in Sydney for wearing a duct-taped vest near a memorial for a deadly Hanukkah attack.
A 33-year-old man from Victoria was charged with offensive behaviour and other offences after being arrested in Bondi Junction, Sydney, on January 11, 2026, for wearing a vest covered in duct-taped objects. Police from Operation Shelter responded to reports of suspicious activity, found a second vest, a face mask, and a tin believed to contain prohibited drugs in his vehicle, and deemed both vests safe. The incident occurred near Bondi Beach, where thousands had gathered earlier for a memorial service marking the one-year anniversary of a December 14 terrorist attack at a Hanukkah celebration. The man was denied bail and is set to appear in court on Monday.
