A man admitted to causing suffering to 22 pets and defrauding donors of over £4,000 through false charity claims.
Oaveed Rahman, 26, of Billericay, pleaded guilty at Basildon Crown Court on January 12, 2026, to causing unnecessary suffering to 21 dogs and one cat, and 11 fraud charges related to false claims about running a charity, rehoming dogs, and building kennels.
Police found over 40 dog carcasses at his home after a raid, and he admitted taking more than £4,000 through deception between late 2024 and May 2025.
His partner’s charges were dropped.
The case has sparked calls for mandatory licensing of animal rehoming centers, with MP Richard Holden pushing for reform, as a petition with over 109,000 signatures heads to parliamentary debate.
Rahman’s sentencing is set for February 20.
