Israel's High Court demands disclosure of ultra-Orthodox school funding and oversight data within 10 days.
The Israeli High Court has ordered the government to disclose detailed records on funding and oversight of ultra-Orthodox schools within 10 days, following a petition by Hiddush – Freedom of Religion and Equality.
The court criticized the Education Ministry for failing to provide documents on curriculum, teacher qualifications, student assessments, and supervision.
The ruling comes after a hearing that upheld a freeze on hundreds of millions of shekels in budget transfers to two major haredi education networks.
The court demanded data on boys’ and girls’ schools separately, requiring only existing records, not new collection.
This follows a separate call by Knesset Legal Adviser Sagit Afik for a full investigation into unauthorized fund transfers to haredi schools over the past five years, with opposition leader Yair Lapid accusing the government of fraud and demanding accountability.
