A former lecturer was banned from Sainsbury's and given a suspended jail sentence for stealing over £11,900 in goods.
Pauline Marta Al Said, a 35-year-old former criminology lecturer now working as a life coach, was banned from all Sainsbury's stores in England and Wales for 18 months after stealing over £11,900 in goods between January 2024 and May 2025.
She admitted to stealing food, alcohol, clothing, electronics, and other items across multiple locations, often hiding alcohol under other goods in a trolley.
The court heard the thefts were likely for drugs, and she also stole from a Waitrose and two Sainsbury's stores, including £2,200 from one in Hook.
With prior convictions for theft, drug driving, and weapon possession, she was on bail during some offenses.
At Southampton Crown Court, she received a 44-week prison sentence suspended for 18 months, was ordered to complete 20 rehabilitation days, 100 hours of unpaid work, and pay £1,800 in compensation.
Her legal team said she has turned her life around and wants to leave Southampton due to negative experiences.
