Elderly Indian veteran and wife must appear in person at two distant locations for voter verification despite prior compliance.
Former Navy Chief Admiral Arun Prakash, 82, and his wife, both in Goa, were instructed by India’s Election Commission to appear in person at two separate locations 18 kilometers apart for voter roll verification under the Special Intensive Revision process, despite completing SIR forms and appearing on the Goa Draft Electoral Roll 2026.
Officials say their names are not in the 2002 voter list and they fall under the “unmapped” category.
Prakash, a 1971 war veteran, expressed frustration over the requirement, noting a polling officer visited their home three times without collecting needed information.
He criticized the SIR form design and the burden on elderly voters, urging the Commission to improve the process.
The case is under review, with officials examining a Navy veterans enumeration form.
