Bulgarian woman jailed for £54M benefit fraud gets Universal Credit after early release, despite no right to work.
Tsvetka Todorova, a Bulgarian national jailed for her role in Britain’s largest benefit fraud—stealing £54 million through over 6,000 fake claims—has resumed receiving Universal Credit after being released early from prison.
She now lives in Erith, south-east London, with her husband, and claims £1,300 monthly in benefits despite having no right to work.
Todorova, who pleaded guilty to fraud and money laundering, says she loves the UK and has family there, and denies wrongdoing, citing mental health struggles.
Fellow gang members have also been released on immigration bail, awaiting deportation.
The Department for Work and Pensions is reviewing her benefits eligibility and pursuing recovery of stolen funds, having recovered about £1 million so far.
