Azerbaijan has approved a 2026–2035 state program to modernize water, sewage, and stormwater systems in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, aiming to raise uninterrupted drinking water coverage to 95% and sewage service to 95%, while cutting water losses from 40–45% through new reservoirs, pipeline upgrades, digital monitoring, and a planned desalination plant.
The initiative, led by President Ilham Aliyev, includes constructing 30 new reservoirs, expanding networks by over 200 km each, and improving wastewater treatment, with strict oversight by the government and public.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan’s oil production in 2025 averaged 571,000 barrels per day, 91,000 below its OPEC+ quota, and gas output rose over 2% to 51.5 billion cubic meters, with 500 million cubic meters exported to Syria.
