Apple topped global smartphone sales in 2025 with 20% share, led by iPhone 17 demand.

According to Counterpoint Research, strong sales of the iPhone 17 series and demand in emerging and mid-sized markets propelled Apple to the top of the global smartphone market in 2025 with a 20% share. Xiaomi came in third place with 13%, followed by Samsung with 19%. Although early-year tariff concerns caused temporary shipment shifts, shipments increased 2% year over year thanks to economic growth in developing regions. Due to chip shortages and growing component costs, Counterpoint predicts a slowdown in the market in 2026 as chipmakers put AI data centers ahead of smartphone manufacturing.
