A 16-year-old boy, Anuj Kumar, died in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, after being fatally shot by a rifle belonging to his father, a Village Defence Group (VDG) member, during routine cleaning at their home on Saturday night.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. in Loyee Dhar village, where the weapon discharged accidentally.
Police responded quickly, recovered the body, and transported it to Chatroo Hospital for a post-mortem.
Authorities have launched an inquest, seized the firearm for forensic analysis, and are interviewing family members.
