Witney Town Council rejects fire service reforms over concerns about safety, staffing, and inadequate consultation.
Witney Town Council has rejected Oxfordshire County Council’s proposed fire service reforms, citing inadequate consultation with frontline staff and concerns over reduced night-time coverage, recruitment, and retention.
The plan, which includes closing stations in Henley, Woodstock, and Eynsham and shifting to 12-hour shifts, faces opposition over its impact on a growing population and new housing developments.
Over 100 protesters demonstrated in December, and local officials from both major parties warned the changes could compromise public safety.
The county council says staffing shortages and the need to improve night shifts drove the proposals, with union consultations beginning early.
The public consultation remains open until January 20.
