A UK consumer group warns weight loss supplements are often ineffective and misleading, urging caution due to lack of oversight.
A consumer advocate has warned that many weight loss supplement claims are unreliable, calling the market a "wild west" due to misleading advertising and lack of oversight. Megan Thomas of Which? emphasized the absence of solid evidence for most product benefits, especially those promoted online and on social media. While about 1.5 million in the UK use weight loss injections, surveys show 26% of adults would only consider them if prescribed, 16% might buy them from a pharmacy, and 9% could purchase them via social media—where unverified claims are widespread. Thomas urged caution, stressing the need for greater scrutiny of such products.
